Rabbi Dov Lior of Kiryat Arba - Hevron issued a strongly-worded letter this week against false publications that he had called for Likud members to cast a blank ballot in Tuesday's primary between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Chairman Moshe Feiglin of the party's Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) faction for chairmanship of the party. Other party positions are also being contested.
Rabbi Lior stressed in his letter that there is an obligation to go out and vote for those who work to maintain the Jewish character of the state and will make a commitment to maintain the integrity of the country. He said party members should vote for representatives who "don't talk about turning parts of the homeland over to terrorists." He added, "There is a civic and Jewish obligation on each member of the movement to express his opinion in the elections who are the elected officials that he would like represent him and the movement as it is now in power."
