An investigation by the Israel Prisons Service into Thursday morning's fire at the Ma'asiyahu Prison, in the central Israeli city of Ramle, indicates that prisoners set fire to a mattress as an act of protest after one of them was taken for a clarification following a brawl. Nine prisoners suffered light to heavy smoke inhalation and were taken to Kaplan Hospital in Rechovot and to Tel Hashomer and Asaf Harofe, east of Tel Aviv.
