The United Nations has announced that it has ceased keeping count of those killed in Syrian protests as it finds it difficult to get accurate information from the country, reports the French news agency.
UN Human Rights High Commissioner Navi Pallay told reporters that the number of Syrians killed since December has risen, but added that the UN is having difficulty keeping count because of the conditions on the ground in Syria. In December, she announced that there were some 5000 victims of Syrian army violence against protesters.
