4.5 Years for Bus Driver in Accident Which Killed 5


The Akko Magistrates Court for Traffic sentenced former Egged bus driver Bahajat Ghanem of Sajur, Monday morning, to four-and-a-half years in prison in connection with a May 13, 2010 accident that took the lives of five of his passengers. According to the indictment, about 50 other passengers were injured when Ghanem's bus drove into a truck standing at the side of the road near the Gilon Junction, also injuring the driver of the truck.

Ghanem was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, negligent driving and causing damage to person and property. In addition to the prison sentence, his bus driver's license was permanently revoked, and he will not be allowed to drive any vehicle for 20 years.
