An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit northern Iran Thursday. The epicenter was next to the city of Neyshabur, 420 miles north of Tehran, according to Iranian sources.

Thirty-six people were lightly injured. No significant damage was immediately reported, although the windows of some buildings were shattered.
