IDF: Special Spokesperson Aims at Russian Audience

The IDF has come to the conclusion that in order to reach populations whose native language is not Hebrew and whose culture-based associations are not Israeli, it is best to employ native speakers of each language to write specifically for these populations, soldier and civilian alike.

For the last six months, this has been the case for those whose first language is Russian. The IDF spokesperson for the Russian community has been head of the IDF Russian Media desk, Captain Anna Ukolova, a native Russian speaker, who translates official announcements, has written idiomatic Russian translations of  IDF video clips, and has created a website in Russian, her mother tongue, so that nuances are not lost when information, originally in Hebrew, is translated.

Cap. Ukolova's most recent innovation is an official account on Twitter, in Russian. It is worth having a look, even if you are not a Russian speaker, at http://www.7kanal.com/news.php3?id=286685
