Can Bonomo, a popular, young Jewish-Turkish musician will be Turkey's contestant in the annual Eurovision song contest. Bonomo told Aksam news, "my family came from Spain 540 years ago. I am Turkish and I am representing Turkey, I will go out there with the Turkish flag and represent Turkey. I am an artist, a musician. That’s all that everybody needs to know.”
Bonomo’s spokesman, Ece Kahraman, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency "We would like to inform that Mr. Can Bonomo is bound to refuse answering all the questions about his religious beliefs, anti-Semitism and political subjects.”
Many in the Turkish-Jewish community say the are proud of Bonomo, while some Turkish Muslims have verbally attacked him, calling him a "Zionist."
