The Knesset Interior and Environmental Protection Ministry unanimously approved for its first Knesset reading, Monday, a bill, under which the Interior Ministry's Population Registry will recognize religious court decisions that individuals are Jewish. The ministry has refused to recognize the Jewish status of a number of people recognized by rabbinical courts.

Committee Chairman Amnon Cohen said the legislation will prevent harassment of those who have been approved by the religious courts.
