Finance C'tee Members Demand Meeting on Local Gov't

Members of the Knesset Finance Committee demanded, Monday morning, that Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni convene an urgent meeting of the committee to discuss a crisis in local government that has resulted in strike.

Leading the initiative is Member of Knesset Fania Kirschenbaum (Yisrael Beiteinu), who says the lowering of municipal taxes is causing a 600-million-shekel blow to local governments. Gafni and other members of the committee expressed resentment at the strike, saying the local governments should have engaged in serious negotiations and left the option to strike as a last resort.
