IDF Abductees: Automatically Disabled?

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation is scheduled, on Sunday, to discuss a bill by Member of Knesset Yisrael Hasson (Kadima), which would automatically give a 20-percent disability profile to any soldier who is abducted and held by an enemy for 14 days or more, except due to misbehavior, including desertion. The legislation would allow a qualifying soldier to ask for a medical review board.

The legislation reflects conclusions of an intermediate report by a parliamentary panel on the Israel Defense Forces' rehabilitation program, headed by Hasson, which recognized the difference between disabilities caused by captivity and other disabilities..
