Noam Shalit, father of released IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, is entering politics, and will seek a place on the Labor Party's Knesset list. Shalit announced that he would undertake the move after meeting with Labor head Shelly Yechimovich Monday.
Shalit said that “after years of public struggle, thanks to which I got to know Israeli society in depth, especially its positive side and the values it epitomizes, I have decided to undertake a career in public activity. I do this in order to serve the public and to be in a position to influence Israeli society. The Labor Party is a social democratic party that seeks peace, and as such is my natural home. I believe that with Shelly Yechimovich leading the party we will be able to accomplish many important things for Israeli society,” Shalit added.
