Ministers OK Ban on Holocaust Symbols

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation endorsed, Monday, a bill to prohibit the inappropriate use of Nazi and Holocaust monikers and symbols. Under the bill, people convicted of a violation will face a six-month jail sentence and a 100,000-shekel fine.

The bill's sponsor, Member of Knesset Uri Ariel (National Union), welcomed the vote, adding, "Unfortunately, recent years have seen a cynical exploitation of Nazi symbols and nicknames violating the feelings of Holocaust survivors, their families and many more people in Israel. The law will constitute a proper deterrent punishment in law and proper anchor for such despicable use."
