Report: 260,000 Foreign Residents in 2011

There were more than 260,000 foreign residents in Israel in 2011, Israel Defense Forces Radio reported Monday, based on a document to be presented later in the day at a meeting of the Knesset Committee on the Problem of Foreign Workers.

The document says 88,000 were in the country legally. Another 95,000 arrived on tourist visas and stayed after the visas expired. The number of infiltrators and asylum seekers amounted to 45,000, while residents of the Palestinian Authority with permits to work in other parts of Israel accounted for 31,000.
