Chairman Danny Dayan of the Yesha Council of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria reacted, Sunday evening, to reports that Coalition Chairman Ze'ev Elkin reported on the evacuation of outpost communities to right wing activists by saying, "The attack on Member of Knesset Ze'ev Elkin is a complete distortion of facts and causes great injustice to the chairman of the coalition."
Dayan continued, "When they started to receive reports that, despite the agreement we formulated with Benny Begin, the army was going to destroy the Ramat Gilead, I turned to several sources, including the Prime Minister's Office, Ministers Begin and Ya'alon, Member of Knesset Elkin and General [Avi] Mizrahi so that they would act to stop the reckless move. Elkin, as usual, was fastest and soon returned with information from the political echelon that Ramat Gilad will not be destroyed. I myself I sent out this information...to defuse the situation." He concluded, "Special interests who have an agenda against Elkin distort the facts to hurt him."
