City Councilman: Agreement on Jerusalem Chief Rabbis

City Councilman Yair Gabai of Jerusalem confirmed, Friday, that there is an agreement between the hareidi-religious Shas party and religious Zionists that religious Zionist rabbi Aryeh Stern will be elected the city's chief Ashkenazic rabbi while Rabbi Yitzchak Yoseph will be chosen the chief Sephardic rabbi. Interviewed by Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service, he called the agreement a positive development, adding that the work won't be done until the election takes place.

Gabai expressed hope that there won't be surprises as in the last election of the chief rabbis of the state, when an apparent agreement did not go through. The councilman said the chances of the agreement holding are better in this instance.
