Ethiopians Grab Key City from Islamists

Hundreds of Ethiopian troops took over a key city in Somalia after defeating Islamist rebels. The city, Beledweyne, was an important one for the Shebab Islamist insurgents, linked to Al Qaeda, who control much of southern Somalia, but whom the central government has been trying to fight with the aid of regional armies.

An Ethiopian army statement said that some 20 people had been killed in the battle, and that control had been handed over to the Somali army. The insurgents said that they were still in control of the city.
