Jordanian Farmers: Don't Buy Israeli Potatoes

Jordanian farmers and wholesalers are demanding that the government in Amman prevent the further importation of potatoes from Israel, according to a report by the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rad. They claim the Israeli spuds have flooded the market, forcing them to sell at a loss and causing supplies to pile up.

According to the report, the Jordanian agriculture office recently allowed the import of an undisclosed quantity of Israeli potatoes. The farmers expressed amazement that the ministry did not approve the importation of potatoes of a similar price and quality level from the Gulf states and demanded preference for agricultural imports from Arab states.
