Committee OKs Benefits for Discharged Soldiers

The Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee cleared the way, Monday, for the first reading of two bills to benefit soldiers upon completion of their military service. The first measure calls for a gradual increase in the discharge grant for those who served three years from 9,648 shekels in January to 20,000 shekels in 2016. Other discharge grants will also be raised gradually.

The second proposal is to eliminate the current situation, in which a discharged soldier chooses a "preferred profession" and is called to reserves duty is not eligible for the grant associated with the preferred profession.
