Harper Worried About Effect of Egyptian Situation Here

Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada said, Sunday evening that his country is concerned that the potential new government of Egypt will be worse than that of ousted president Hosni Mubarak. Interviewed by CTV, Harper said, "There are obviously forces who want democracy and progressive change, but there are clearly some forces that would want something that's probably worse than what we had before."

Referring to remarks by the Muslim Brotherhood - the leading party in Egypt's parliamentary elections - that it would review the Camp David Accords with Israel, Harper said, "The peace between Israel and Egypt for the past several decades has been of immense benefit to both countries and to the region. And anything that I think threatens that would not be good."
