Journalism Council to Act in Defense of Miri Tzachi

Director-General Arik Bachar of the Journalism Council announced, Thursday, that the council will defend Makor Rishon photographer Miri Tzachi, who was demanded to turn pictures of participants in Monday's riot at the Israel Defense Forces' Ephraim Division Headquarters over to police. Bachar said that if Tzachi's confidentiality protection is removed, the council will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.

He told attorney Hila Cohen of the Legal Forum that the council would defend the confidentiality of any journalist, no matter what the journalist's views, except in the case of harming people's lives or serious crimes. He explained that one must not mix the work of police and journalists, adding that both had their specific function.
