"Chanukah is the festival of light and joy," said Yoram Levy, spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service. However he warned people not to use chanukiyahs (menorahs) made out of wood or other flammable material. ""I've often seen fires following the candle lighting," Levy told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew language news service. He also recommended candles be placed in non-flammable holders and on steady, stable tables or countertops.
Levy said he had a positive outlook for this year;'s Chanukah celebrations due to the fact that fire departments throughout the country are expected to receive 88 new fire trucks. This will ensure that if emergencies do occur, the fire department will be ready.
