Report: Chief Rabbi Metzger Offered Sacks' Post

Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger was recently offered the post of Chief Rabbi of England to replace Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, who recently announced he will be stepping down in 2013 after 22 years in the post, according to a Monday report by the Yisrael Hayom daily.

The newspaper notes that Rabbi Metzger's term will end in a year and, despite efforts in political circles to retain him and Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, Metzger has told his associates that he is not interested in another ten-year term. In confirming that Rabbi Metzger was approached by a leading member of Britain's Jewish community, a source in the rabbi's office said, "They aren't dealing in what happens the next day."
