Police over the weekend arrested a 25-year old man from central Israel who apparently had decided to cross into Syria. According to the man, who police arrested over the weekend, he had planned to enter Syria in order to help rebels fighting against forces controlled by Bashar al-Assad. He was arrested near the town of Avnei Eitan, on the Golan Heights.
Police were responding to a missing persons report filed by the man's parents. He was detained and questioned, and sent for a psychiatric evaluation, police said.
