Hamas Debates Building on Muslim Brotherhood Success

Hamas in Gaza appears to be divided on a recent proposal by Arab and Western advisors that it re-build itself as the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in order to receive international recognition similar to the recognition the Muslim Brotherhood has received for "Arab Spring" revolutions in Egypt, Tunisia,Syria and other countries, according to the London-based daily Al-Hayat.

There are those within the terror organization who agree with the premise, noting that Hamas was established in Gaza, Judea and Samaria on a Muslim Brotherhood platform. At the same time, there are those who are concerned about the transition of Hamas from a fighting group to a political party. Sources within the leadership movement have proposed creating a local branch of the Freedom and Justice party, such as the Brotherhood has in Egypt, ahead of the next Palestinian Authority elections.
