Alternate Temple Mount Access Demanded

Members of Knesset Uri Ariel and Ariel Eldad demanded, Thursday, that an alternate gate for Jews to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City be opened, in the wake of the impending order by the Jerusalem municipality to close the bridge from the Western Wall Plaza to the Rambam (Mughrabi) Gate for safety reasons. MK Ariel said that the decision to issue the order cannot constitute an excuse to keep Jews from going up to the Temple Mount for even a minute. He called for a new, safer bridge.

In a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Knesset Member Eldad called for establishing a new bridge without delay. He added, "The time has come that the state of Israel implement sovereignty in Jerusalem and stop relating to the city as an international area where every Arab leader whose chair is wobbling can exercise a veto over Israeli activity." Netanyahu recently stopped the bridge from being dismantled for fear of Arab rioting.
