Numerous criticisms of a recent New York Times editorial have been written defending Israel against the accusation of "pinkwashing".
Sarah Schulman's November 22nd editorial in the New York Times accused Israel of "pinkwashing" by using gay rights and gay tourism as a cover for anti-Arab actions. Schulman wrote that there was "a deliberate strategy to conceal the continuing violations of Palestinians’ human rights behind an image of modernity signified by Israeli gay life." The editorial also wrote that Israel "ignores the existence of Palestinian gay-rights organizations."
Such publications as Tablet, the Forward, Honest Reporting, and the Huffington Post and others have printed articles rejecting Shulman's perspective.
