US Expresses 'Concern' Over Russian Election

The United States on Monday expressed concern over reports of violence and vote-tampering in Russia's weekend elections. The U.S. said it was “very worried” that the elections were not conducted properly, and urged Russia to investigate the reports.

With most of the votes counted, Vladimir Putin's United Russia Party emerged as the clear winner of the election, with 52% of the vote. However, that figure fell far short of the level of support for Putin in the previous election, when his party won 64% of the vote.
