PM Seeks to Move Up Likud Primaries

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday declared that he would seek to move up primaries in the Likud. The primaries had been scheduled for spring, but Netanyahu told Likud MKs Monday that he would seek to conduct the primaries on January 31. The move would save the Likud money, he said, and allow the party to better prepare for the next election, which would center on issues like the economy and defense.

Netanyahu said that the Likud was an open and democratic party, and anyone who wished to could put their name forth as a candidate.
