Chairwoman Tzipi Hotovely of the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women is scheduled to meet with members of women's organizations on Thursday to discuss the controversy over disciplinary action taken against religious soldiers who walk of vocal performances by women based on their interpretation of Jewish law. A number of women and women's groups have taken the walkout as an affront and threat to women in the military.
MK Hotovely was criticized for a her bill to grant immunity to the religious soldiers. She said, Monday, "The public and women's representatives are aware of my firm opinion on the exclusion of women. I support the service and the singing of women in the Israel Defense Forces, and I am convinced that we can succeed in resolving arguments about paths of action and move on to cooperation.
