Modest to sharp gains were posted a quarter hour into trading, Monday, on most indices at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. The TA composite index rose 1.19 percent to 987.08, while the TA 100 rose 1.28 percent to 1,000.11, including a 1.31 percent hike by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues to 1,098.55.
Leading the gainers were the bank stocks, up two percent at 964.83, followed by the insurance stocks at 1,058.50, up 1.87 percent to lead the financial institutions to a 10:00 a.m. figure of 910.37, up 1.79 percent. The communications stocks rose 1.39 percent to 788.89 and the oil and gas stocks stood at 1,182.49, up 1.04 percent. Most of the technology stocks rose 1.01 percent to 281.11, while the biotech issues stood at 728.18, up .55 percent.
