Member of Knesset Uri Ariel, who serves on the Knesset Finance Committee, advised labor and management at the P'ri Hagalil produce-processing plant in Chatzor Hagelilit, Sunday, on undisclosed steps to take in an attempt to avoid the laying off of 50 workers. His visit to the plant came two weeks before the deadline set by Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni for finding a solution.
Chairman Motti Chaziza of P'ri Hagalil's workers' committee told Ariel that money was invested in the factory, bases on unkept promises made by former Industry, Commerce and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. Director-General Shachar Aharonson added that a change in ownership resulted in bureaucracy resulted in more bureaucratic demands on the company. Ariel warned the sides not to depend on promises, noting that the government is wary of bailing the plant out and receiving similar requests from other companies that could run into millions of shekels.
