The Be'er Sheva District Court denied, Sunday, a request to cancel an order blocking the Mekorot national water company from cutting off water to farmers in the Negev, according to Kol Yisrael government radio. The order was issued last month, in response to Mekorot's decision to stop providing water for agriculture because of an 18-million-shekel debt run up by the farmers.
The farmers have filed a petition against Mekorot and the Water Authority. The court gave the two sides two weeks to submit their claims. A payment of about a quarter of the debt has been approved by the court.
