Transport Minister Yisrael Katz said Sunday that beginning in early 2012, Israelis who install safety systems in their vehicles will be eligible for tax breaks. Cars that have crash detection warning systems and other safety features will be eligible for a reduce import and purchase tax, lowering the price of vehicles by thousands of shekels.

Katz, speaking to a meeting of engineers in Tel Aviv, said that the systems had proven to reduce traffic fatalities by a significant amount, and he wanted more Israelis to have access to the systems.
