Spokesman David Kriss of the European Union rejected, Thursday, claims by the nationalist camp that the EU finances the left-wing Peace Now (Shalom Achshav) group. Interviewed by Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service, he said the EU has not funded Peace Now in years. He continued, " There are no projects of Peace Now that are supported in the 2011 budget. The call to nominate projects for the 2012 budget has not been publicized. All projects in Israel which are supported by the European Union are clearly registered on the website of the European Unions delegation to the state of Israel."
Asked if it was reasonable that the EU got involved in Israeli politics, Kriss said, "The European Union supports the advancement of the universal values of human rights and peace." Arutz Sheva has documents, publicized in the media as early as 2001 that prove the EU was clearly involved in politics. A senior figure in Jerusalem non-profit circles said that large sums of money reached the organization, but via an individual's account and not by the movement's account.
