US Rep Frank to Retire

Longtime Massachusetts Democratic Congressman Barney Frank announced  that he would not seek re-election in the  2012 House election. Speaking at a news conference, Frank said that part of the decision was due to a redistricting procedure that would leave him with a new constituency that he was unfamiliar with.

Frank has served in Congress for 16 terms, since 1980, and authored the landmark legislation rewriting the rules under which banks and financial institutions can operate after the 2008 financial crisis.
