C'tee OKs Benefits for Disabled Seniors

The Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee approved, Monday, regulations that would give the same benefits to a disabled senior citizen as those given to a senior whose level of income is insured. The benefits include discounts on municipal taxes, health fund membership, subsidized drugs, heating and the Bezeq communications company.

Representatives of government offices agreed to a request by committee members to make the municipal tax break retroactive to the first of June and the heating benefit to the first of October. The rest will take effect in a month. A Bezeq representative protested the lack of a public hearing on the matter and asked that the benefits be given by all the country's phone companies. A health-fund representative said the benefits constituted a burden on the health funds.
