C'tee Increase Aid to Small and Medium Businesses

The Knesseet Finance Committee called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Treasurer Yuval Steinitz to increase government funding for small and medium-sized businesses. During discussion on a recommendation to raise taxes for small businesses and to give tax breaks for large successful factories, Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni cited the economic situation in the world and the difficult situation of the middle class in Israel.

Referring to small and medium-sized businesses as "the central business anchor of Israeli society," MK Gafni said the criteria for aid should be made more flexible, especially in the case of factories that export less than a quarter of their output. He added, "Many of the small and medium-sized businesses are in danger of closing and firing workers."
