Hundreds of Ethiopian olim demonstrated on Sunday in front of the Ministry of Absorption over the reduction of the number of olim coming from Ethiopia. The demonstration came after a ministerial committee recently decided to reduce immigration from Ethiopia and allow 110 olim per month instead of 200.
Dr. Avraham Negosa, one of the leaders of the Ethiopian community in Israel, said during the protest, “Israel, a member of the OECD and a country with seven million people cannot handle seven olim per day? There is an intolerable reality here exists only with olim from Ethiopia and that cannot be understood or accepted.
