The Jerusalem light-rail system returned to service, Sunday evening, about an hour after a train seriously injured a pedestrian between the Damascus Gate and the "New Gate" on the north side of the Old City. The victim was evacuated to Hadassah Ein-Kerem Hospital.
Service was interrupted to allow a police investigation of the accident. Citipass, which operates the light rail, said the preliminary results of its ongoing investigation indicate the driver acted properly, sounding a horn and applying the emergency brake, when the pedestrian crossed in a place where it is prohibited to do so. His injuries mark the first time significant injuries have been caused by a Jerusalem light-rail mishap.
