Moderate Muslim Party Wins Morocco Elections

With more than 60 percent of the votes counted, it appeared, Saturday, that the PJD Justice and Development party would win Morocco's first parliamentary election. With results known for 288 seats in the 395-member assembly, Interior Minister Taib Cherkaoui told a news conference that PJD had 80 mandates and outgoing prime minister Abbas Al Fassi's secular Istiqlal party was in second place with 45 seats.

The two parties are expected to join two others to form a coalition.
