The heads of the regional councils in Shomron (Samaria), Binyamin and Gush Etzion wrote to coalition chairman Ze'ev Elkin, Friday, asking him to call an emergency meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, following the discovery by the Samaria Residents' Council of a document in which the Magen David Adom emergency service promises the International Committee of the Red Cross not to operate in Judea and Samaria the way it operates in the rest of Irael. Elkin chairs the committee's subcommittee on Judea and Samaria and is a sponsor of the anti-boycott law.
In their letter, the council heads note that Magen David Adom is supposed to be a national rescue service and security service, funded by state funds. As such, they say, the agreement between Magen David Adom and the Red Cross is unacceptable and against the law, adding that Magen David Adom cannot waive parts of the country. They said the 400,00 residents of the region are not second class and no organization can discriminate against them.
