A young couple from Ramat Gan decided to be wed in a religious ceremony, but accidentally set the date for the eve of the tenth of Tevet, traditionally a fast day in the Jewish calendar.

Historically, the siege around Jerusalem was placed by the king of Babylon on this day, and the chief rabbinate also designated this day as ‘The General Kaddish Day’, the official memorial day for Jews who didn’t survive the holocaust and don’t have a known memorial day.

The chief rabbinate of Ramat Gan refuses to allow the wedding on the eve of the fast day. They suggested having the ceremony a few hours earlier, but the couple will not accommodate this idea, as invitations have been sent and hall reservations have already been made. The couple has threatened to use a reform rabbi for the ceremony.
