Nine Wounded in Southern Thailand Blast

Police in the Muslim-majority area of southern Thailand say nine people were wounded, Monday morning, when a remote-control bomb was detonated in an area where Buddhist monks were collecting charity, according to the Associated Press. Three monks were wounded, as were three police escorts and three elderly bystanders.

The police escorts were dictated by earlier attacks on the monks. Nearly 5,000 people have been killed in anti-government Islamist violence since 2004.
