Peres: Hareidim Need Proper Working Conditions

President Shimon Peres said, Sunday, that "employers must make working conditions appropriate for the hareidi community in order to enable the integration of hareidim in the Israeli economy." Speaking during a visit to the Hareidi College in Jerusalem, he added, "There's no reason why the hareidi population stay out of the world of work and live in poverty."

Citing the separation of men from women and providing men with times for prayer, Peres said, "We are living in a time of change and the entrance of hareidim into the work cycle is an important process and possible through maintaining and respecting the unique employment conditions that are required." He continued, "The Jewish people is small but produces an abundance of talented people, and it's necessary that they all participate in society and the economy, so that they in particular and the Israeli society and economy will benefit."
