French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé said on Friday that more severe sanctions are needed against Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

Juppé made the comments during a visit to Turkey, adding that France was willing to cooperate with the opposition in Syria. Turkey's foreign minister agreed with his French counterpart that pressure on Syria should be increased to stop the bloodshed.
