Havat Gilad’s residents have found themselves without electricity once again due to the rainy and cold weather in Israel in recent days.

While this is not the first time that Havat Gilad has been left in the dark, resident Ilana Shimon told Arutz Sheva on Wednesday, “We will continue to settle the land with or without electricity. Even my grandparents who immigrated to Israel lived in a transit camp and it was not easy, but we call on our friends to help”

She added that she does not understand why illegal communities in the Negev are connected to electricity while Havat Gilad remains disconnected.

“Havat Gilad is the only place still not connected to water and electricity,” she said. “Once a week we get a water tanker and the electricity is supplied by the generator. They say we’re an illegal settlement and that’s why we’re not connected, but they connected the Bedouin in the Negev after they petitioned the Supreme Court claiming it was not humanitarian.”
