New Hearing on Commercial Television Debt

The Knesset Economics Committee announced, Sunday, that it has scheduled a new hearing on Wednesday regarding the payment of 50 million shekels ($13.8 million) in debts run up by Channel 10 television and the two franchises for Channel 2. The new hearing was requested by Kadima Knesset members Nachman Shai and Yoel Hasson, as well as Eitan Cabel of Labor, following last week's decision by the committee to give the debtors until the end of the year to pay up.

The station and the two franchises had sought a one-year deferral. Critics charged the committee with politics in the decision.
