UNESCO: No New Programs for Seven Weeks

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization announced, Thursday, that it won't initiate any new programs before the end of the year, following the cutoff of American support.

The United States stopped its 22-percent share of funding of UNESCO 10 days ago because of the organization's vote to accept the Palestinian Authority as a full member. The move has left the organization with a deficit of $65 million. UNESCO said that if the U.S. does not change its mind and goes two years without paying, it could lose its voting rights in the organization.
