Playing with Maccabi Tel Aviv’s basketball team is “the highest level in the world,” according to Jon Scheyer, who moved to Israel this summer after signing up with the Israeli basketball team.

Scheyer was captain of  Duke University’s team, which he led to the 2010 national championship. He has been honored twice by the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. He told Tablet magazine that starring immediately in Tel Aviv would be like earning All-American honors as a freshman at Duke.”

However, he said he is adjusting to his new life and team. “No matter how many times you watch, or your teammates have told you, you just need to experience it. The game is played differently. It takes a little time to get adjusted,” Scheyer said.
