Two fighter jets were destroyed on Sunday after the airport in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, was hit by shells, causing authorities to shut it down.
Witnesses told AFP they heard loud explosions and saw massive flames and plumes of smoke coming from the airport district. The shelling and the fire were likely the results of deadly clashes between troops loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh and members of the anti-regime movement.
